The seeds of Canberra telugu community was laid back in the mid 1970s by the arrival of pioneers like Sri Kumar Jayanthi, Sri Vilas Kumar, Kris Boyapati and others. The appeal of bigger cities like Sydney and Melbourne snared much of our talented exports. The turn of the century saw our community numbers stabilise to around 200 people. However The recent IT boom in Canberra has seen that number explode to more than double that number in the recent past.

Most of the Telugu people in Canberra are based in IT but we have shone thru in other areas. We can boast about our fair share of PhDs from our motherland and leading the charge on the scientific field is our own Professor Sri Chennupati Jagadish.
